Get synced lyrics on your Linux Box with OSD Lyrics

Want to sing along with your favourite song in your Linux machine? Here comes OSD lyrics!

OSD Lyrics is a lyrics viewer compatible with various media players. It is not a plugin but a standalone program. OSD Lyrics shows synchronized lyrics on your desktop, in the style similar to KaraOK. It works with Rhythmbox, Banshee, VLC, Clementine, Songbird, Amarok, Audacious, Exaile, Qmmp, Quod Libet, MPD, and XMMS2 and More.


It also Displays scrolling lyrics. OSD Lyrics can automatically search and download lyrics from the network.

Installing OSD lyrics

In ubuntu, open your terminal and add the ppa with this command

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:osd-lyrics/ppa

Now update the sources and install OSD lyrics

sudo apt-get update


sudo apt-get install osdlyrics

Important: Seems like the repository have not been maintained after the ubuntu 12.04
so, If you are unable to install osdlyrics with the above steps then simply download and install the .deb file given below.

osdlyrics_0.4.3-1~precise1_i386.deb (for 32 bit)

osdlyrics_0.4.3-1~precise1_amd64.deb (for 64 bit)

To use OSD Lyrics, just launch your media player, then launch OSD Lyrics. OSD Lyrics will detect and connect to the media player.

Configure 

OSD lyrics position is initially locked, to move it around click on the the osdlyrics icon in the task bar or right click on the lyrics dialogue and then click on ‘Lock Position’. Click on preferences to configure the lyric’s font type, size, and color. If no lyrics is found then you can assign it from a lrc or txt lyric file.
